28 Oct Sheetal + Amit: a Rainy Downtown Memphis Indian Wedding
As a photographer, I used to be deathly afraid of rain on a wedding day. A wedding is something you can’t reschedule due to weather! I would panic about finding dry locations and not having those glowy sun shots. Luckily, now I know better. I know that there’s nothing a little rain can do that a few umbrellas and an awesome couple won’t fix!
Sheetal and Amit are definitely awesome. Not only are they beautiful people, inside and out, but they are so in love and perfect together. They took everything in stride on their wedding day (from the rain to surprise construction in their hotel), and didn’t let anything get to them. They completely trusted me and Ed, and were even willing to get a little wet for the good of the pictures. I couldn’t have asked for better clients!
Despite the weather, Sheetal and Amit had a beautiful downtown Memphis Indian wedding. We love cultural weddings! They are so colorful, and there were so many little traditions and meaningful details incorporated in their day. Their day was completely and totally all about friends and family, and hundreds of them came to celebrate! Every minute of the day was carefully planned so that everyone was included and had a great time!
The day started dreary, but the view of the Mississippi River was pretty spectacular!
Indian weddings may be the only time that I love the groom’s shoes as much as the bride’s!
Sheetal, you made an absolutely stunning bride!!
Sheetal and Amit chose to see each other before the ceremony, and I’m so glad they did! Not only did it give us plenty of time and opportunities for photos, but they got to share these intimate moments alone together.
The rain slacked a bit just in time for bridal party portraits. All the ladies looked so lovely!
The guys were awesome. It had started to rain again (you can see the rain drops if you look closely!), but they rocked it out anyway!
This photo is the perfect reflection of their day – it shows how much fun they had all day, with their arms wrapped around each other and surrounded by their friends!
Even though it was raining, photos were very important to Sheetal and Amit. They wandered around downtown Memphis with us under an umbrella, but were willing to stand in the drizzle without it for a few photos. This one is my favorite! What’s a little fountain spray when it’s already raining?!
We made sure to keep them under cover and dry for most of the time.
The Baraat is one of my favorite parts of an Indian wedding! I love how the families get involved, giving the groom meaningful gifts and welcoming him into his new family. And who can complain about a groom riding a horse and dancing in the streets?? The rain did not stop this party!
This is one of my favorite shots. After Amit was welcomed by Sheetal’s family, they were lifted into the air as they placed garlands around each other.
The ceremony ballroom and mandap at the downtown Memphis Sheraton was decorated beautifully! I absolutely loved the colors that Sheetal and Amit chose for their day.
The ceremony was full of moments with laughter and tenderness.
Married!
After the ceremony, we took some time for more portraits of just the two of them. Their getaway car was AWESOME, so we made sure to include it in some photos!
This is one of my favorites! You have to have a just married selfie for Facebook!
Sheetal and Amit both changed for the reception later that evening. We ventured out into the rain again for some portraits in their new outfits.
Right before they entered the reception, the clouds parted and the sun actually came out for a stunning sunset! We ran to take advantage of it.
The Cannon Center looked AMAZING!
The First Dance…
Sheetal and Amit wanted a bit of that nightclub feel to their reception, and that’s exactly what they got! The party lasted all night long, and everyone had such a great time!
Sheetal and Amit, words cannot say how gorgeous your downtown Memphis Indian wedding turned out! And most of that was because of YOU. I think the rain only added to your day, and I can’t thank you enough for being so awesome and willing to stand in it! You could not be more perfect for each other, and your wedding day only proved that, as it was perfect for you!

Posted at 13:22h, 28 OctoberSo so gorgeous! Her reception attire was as beautiful as her wedding attire! But it was the photos of the couple with the water (pure life) that stood out to me! How can this gorgeous couple not get every photo and video that has been made in honor of their love! Congratulations!
