19 May Elegant Golf Club Wedding
The first time we ever met Samantha and Slay, we knew we had to shoot their wedding. Yes, they are amazingly good looking. I mean, just scroll down a little. Did you see her??? It’s completely unfair that one person can have that many good genes! But that’s not the reason. Not even close. We always care way more about what’s on the inside than what’s on the outside. And their outsides have nothing on what’s inside! They both have amazing hearts that were built to serve others. They are some of the most caring, selfless people we’ve ever met, and we love them for that!
Sam and Slay are both in the military where they serve our country. Every day. They don’t even get to have a honeymoon right now because they are not in charge of their schedules. Samantha is a 2nd Lieutenant nurse in the Army, and she spends every day caring for others. Slay is also a 2nd lieutenant with many titles and honors, always willing to help others before helping himself. They don’t know how to be selfish. When Ed and I agreed to travel to Michigan to document their Plymouth golf club wedding, Samantha dissolved into a heartfelt “thank you.” We were the lucky ones to be able to witness their love, and they were thanking us!
Slay’s love for Samantha goes deep into his soul and has made a comfortable home in his heart. Though he is expected to always be the tough military man, he has a tender, soft spot that only she can reach. The strength and sincerity of their vows during their wedding ceremony touched every person in the room, some of whom were a little surprised by the sudden emotion. They all knew what a raw, real moment they were witnessing. In that moment, we all knew we wouldn’t have missed this day for anything!
Samantha and Slay prepared for their wedding day in a nearby hotel. One of the first things Samantha did when I walked into the bustle of bridesmaids and sparkle was apologize. For the mess. For the weather. She told me that it wasn’t going to be a “great wedding.” I immediately disagreed and assured her that everything was perfect. If she was there, then it was better than great.
And I was right.
Samantha and Slay chose to see each other before the ceremony, and I’m so glad that they did! The weather was cold and rainy and more than a little unpredictable. Having more time for portraits really saved the day!
Plus, their reactions when they saw each other for the first time are priceless!
We had the run of the entire property, but only a few minutes into portraits, it began to rain and we were forced to head inside. We were able to take so many portraits just in this one spot, in only about 10 minutes’ time. Samantha and Slay were such troopers! They were willing to stand in the freezing wind and the rainy drizzle, and make it look so natural!
These ladies (and man of honor!) were the best! They really took care of Sam all day long and kept smiling, even through the cold!
The guys were all so much fun! They kept us in stitches. All. Day. Long!
Samantha had a very emotional First Look with her dad just minutes before the ceremony. It was so sweet!
Samantha and Slay had originally wanted an outdoor ceremony, but were forced to move inside due to the weather. I have to say… I am so glad it was! As a huge fan of outdoor weddings, I can’t imagine that it could have been any more beautiful if it had been!
I LOVE the look on a groom’s face when he first catches sight of his bride!
The vows were very emotional…
… for everyone.
Love this little sneaky look at each other! Also, the back of that dress? All the heart eyes!
Since the rain had stopped, we stole back outside for a few more portraits before sunset.
Samantha, you are the most stunning bride!
The Summerhouse was decorated beautifully for the party! These little bells rang out all night long for lots of kisses!
We always love it when our grooms request a special cigar shot. We take care of the guys too!
One of the highlights of the evening was “Fools Rush In,” sung by the Man of Honor himself. Samantha and her cousin are very close and share a special relationship. It was so sweet to watch!
Samantha and Slay, words cannot express how lucky we are to have gotten to know you! Your wedding day was everything we expected and more, despite the weather! Thank you so much for making us feel right at home in Michigan. And yes, as long as you two are there, we will definitely be back!
