13 Feb Happy Valentine’s Day | Red + Pink Valentine Inspiration
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, and love is in the air!
I’ve posted before about my love/hate relationship with Valentine’s Day. I’m all about a day filled with love, hearts, everything pink, and chocolate! Plus, Ed and I don’t need much of an excuse for a date night. I finished that good book, and now I must see the movie right now? Date night! There’s yet another good restaurant opening in the ever-rejuvenating midtown? We must try it! We survived this week without killing any of our children? Let’s celebrate! So a whole day devoted to love and a nice dinner out? Sign me up and pour me a drink!
I still think Valentine’s Day is stupid.
Blasphemy coming from someone who photographs weddings, I know. But I still think it’s ridiculous to have only ONE day devoted to love. Every day should be Valentine’s Day in my book! You shouldn’t need a calendar to tell you when to take your loved one out for a nice dinner. You shouldn’t save up corny sentiments and give flowers on the one day in February that everyone else does it. You shouldn’t rub your happy relationship in the faces of the broken-hearted. And, most of all, you should NEVER wait to say “I love you.”
Tell your family, tell your friends, tell your spouse, tell your children that you love them EVERY DAY!! Love is never something that should be held back or reserved for one day.
Ed and I are celebrating love. But not on Valentine’s Day. We have a date night tonight instead! That’s right, we’re boycotting Valentine’s Day. We’re having a Valentine’s Year! Then we plan to spend the weekend, which just happens to include Valentine’s Day, with our children.
Cuz we kinda love them.
With that said, I had to use Valentine’s Day as an excuse to get my kids outside for some photos! We did it last year, and they were some of my favorite photos ever! To get in the Valentine mood, I had them choose red and/or pink items from their closet (yes, I still dress my children!), and we made a photo date. We waited for a sunny day when most of them were home (Morgan was at work and she hasn’t let me corner her yet), and we braved the cold for a fun Valentine inspiration shoot!
Helen loves coffee and foxes, so this mug from her best friend is perfect for her!
We also dragged her boyfriend along and made him join in for a few. Let me tell you, it’s kinda weird telling your daughter’s boyfriend to kiss her! I’m sure it wasn’t awkward at all for him (that was sarcasm)!
Jessie is always willing to work it for the camera! The girl knows how to wear lipstick!
I sent these photos to them both so they could see, and Jessie texted me with “I noticed you named the file Helen-3.jpg, and not my-wondrous-daughters.jpg.” Oops. My bad.
And so I present to you… my wondrous daughters!
Alex was in school when I took the photos of the girls, but not to worry. I cornered him earlier so that I could have photos for his class Valentine cards!
This is my son’s model face, which I do believe he has nailed. He’s such a handsome devil!
But he can never hold a pose for long without bursting out laughing!
I hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s
Day Year planned! If you’re doing something special, or going to a restaurant that you are excited about, please let me know in the comments! Maybe we’ll see you there, but only if you’re going tonight 😉
And remember, tell those you love that you love them EVERY DAY!
