the wizarding world of harry potter.

It was a total spur-of-the-moment decision. But aren’t those the best ones? We decided, last-minute, to drive down to Orlando for two days after we left Ft. Walton, so that we could go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It was our first time.

And it was everything I imagined it would be.

We spent almost all day in that one area of the park, only venturing to other parts of Universal’s Island of Adventure a couple hours before closing. We went in every shop at least twice. We bought wands, we shopped in Honeydukes, We ate at the Three Broomsticks (best theme park fare I’ve ever had). We had Butterbeer. Twice.

And we explored Hogwarts.

Hogwarts! It was amazing. The line was a lengthy 90 minutes, but it was worth it, and every step along the way was filled with something magical. At the end, you get to take a 3D ride through the world of Harry Potter, riding brooms, fighting dragons and dementors, and playing a little Quidditch. I didn’t realize how intense the ride was, and it was probably a good thing, or my motion-sickness stomach would probably have prevented me from giving it a try.

But I’m glad I did. Although I did get queasy, it was amazing! You really felt like you were flying, the spiders spit at us, and the dragon’s breath was really warm. Nothing else can immerse you into the world of Harry Potter like this ride can – just do it before you eat!

All in all, it was an experience we’ll never forget. And we’ll be sure to go back when they finish adding on!

Obviously, I fell in love with the castle! We spent all day looking for the best angle to photograph Hogwarts.

This is the only group shot I managed to get, and it was actually taken in the Jurassic Park portion of the park. We were just having too much fun to stop for photos!

And you know what else? It didn’t pour on us. It did rain once during lunch, but the coolness it brought was welcome. I think Harry and the gang really wanted us to be there.

Here’s to castles. And Hogsmeade. And getting to be a part of it. Cheers!
