26 Feb my new tattoo.
I have been thinking about getting a new tattoo for almost 3 years now. Ever since I burned my hand by attempting to hot glue a button onto a kid’s school project. Irony. I wouldn’t let her use the glue gun. Cuz it’s dangerous. So I have been living with a scar of two button holes on my left hand for a few years. This is a big deal to someone who uses their hands for a living. Actually, now that I think about it, what job doesn’t use your hands? So maybe that’s not a valid point.
Squirrel. Anyway. The point is that I wanted to tattoo over the scar. If I had to look down at my hand and see something, I wanted that something to be pretty. I firmly believe that tattoos should be tasteful, and mean something personal. So I put years of thought into it, making sure I knew exactly what kind of tattoo I wanted to cover my scar. Because tattoos are permanent. Like, forever.
While Ed and I were wandering around Savannah last month, we happened to pass a tattoo shop. Ed casually mentioned that a tattoo might mean more if I got it in a significant place. What better place than my favorite city on Earth?
So I did.
I decided on seagulls. Because they soar, like dreams. Because they’re beautiful. And because they live by the sea. Something small and simple, yet meaningful.
I love it more every day. So way better than an ugly hot glue scar.
Here’s to turning scars into art. And significance. And tattoos. Cheers!
