24 Feb Winter French Quarter Engagement
We started a new tradition last year. Every February, Ed and I take an annual trip with our best friends. To get away and focus on friendship before things really start to get busy. Just a few days. Enough time to add another checkbox to our travel journals, to shirk responsibility in order to stay young, and to go and see and do. Last year, we toured the Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg and hit the Nashville nightlife. But last year, it was a cold trip, staying true to February. And last year, our best friends weren’t engaged. We decided to change things up this year!
This year, we wanted something warmer. Other requirements were culture, great food, and plenty of cocktails, not necessarily in that order! We decided on New Orleans, which fit the bill perfectly and made for a fairly quick road trip. It had been a few years since Ed and I had visited the Crescent City, and New Orleans is famous for food, my favorite thing about vacationing! We spent the weekend roaming the French Quarter and living spontaneously. But we made sure to make time to sneak in some engagement photos of our best friends, who will be getting married later this year!
Jonathan and Jessica are the perfect travel mates. They are early risers and great organizers, while Ed and I are their late-sleeping and chaos-ensuing antagonists. Thanks to them, we always had reservations at the best restaurants and a fun Airbnb apartment to share. Thanks to us, they always had reasons to laugh and a willing driver who was not afraid of the city traffic (thanks, Ed!). And someone completely and totally willing to take some photos of them!
The weather was amazing, and we had so much fun snapping some French Quarter engagement photos of Jonathan and Jessica while we were there. This is only Part 1 of their engagement photos, since we plan to do a more in-depth session here in Memphis when the weather warms up. Stay tuned for Part II, but in the meantime, keep reading to get to know our best friends!
We actually started in the back yard of our little Airbnb house because the light streaming through the trees was too beautiful to pass up! There are always things blooming in New Orleans, infusing even the dark corners with color. Jessica’s engagement ring is a beautiful vintage piece with sapphires circling the diamond. Great job, Jonathan!
Jonathan says he “photographs badly,” but I think I made a liar out of him! I love this one of them laughing. It’s the reason we love them so much!
Nothing is better than old French Quarter architecture! Intricate iron railings spilling with plants and balconies in every color you can imagine! But I like it better with friends.
Jackson Square requires a permit for professional photography. Lucky for us, we were just two people taking some snapshots of our friends on a fun weekend trip! Shhh. Don’t tell. If you wait until almost sunset, there are fewer people around the square, though we still had to photograph strategically around other travelers and sight-seers.
Jonathan and Jessica, we had so much fun on this trip! Next year, let’s add one more day. I want to go back already! Thanks so much for putting up with us and allowing us to take your photo, even though we forgot our cameras (long story coming to the blog soon)! We love you guys!
