30 Dec Molly + Spencer: Promised. | a Memphis Winter Engagement
Molly and Spencer were meant to be… but it took awhile for them to realize it. They had known each other for years. In fact, if you ask them, they can’t remember a time when they didn’t know each other. They had friends that knew each other and they would often bump into each other, but it took years for them to look at each other as something other than friends. When they did finally arrange a date, Spencer had to cancel due to a torn achilles tendon. Molly thought he was making it up to get out of the date, until he showed up at the next one with crutches. Sometimes the best relationships start off slow.
It didn’t take Spencer long to figure out what he had been missing all those years. On a special family trip to the beach, he knew he wanted to pop the question. His plan was to wait until the Friday of their trip to propose. But Spencer was so eager, by Tuesday he knew he couldn’t wait any longer. He got up early to get her dad alone to ask his permission, then put her aunts to work gathering tiki torches for the beach that evening. Later, while Molly was stuck in the hotel room waiting for a phone interview, Spencer arranged everything and set up code words for her family so that he could surprise her when she came down to the beach.
When Molly finished her interview, she came down to the beach and the rest of the family, who were in on the secret, wandered off toward the water. The tiki torches were lit, and they were all alone, but Molly, who had no idea of what was going on, started to follow the rest of the family toward the water. Spencer knew this was his only chance, so before she could get too far, he dropped to his knee, forgot his entire speech that he had planned out, and instead, seized the moment and asked her to be his wife. Molly was caught completely by surprise, but quickly and tearfully agreed while the rest of the family came running back to congratulate them.
Ed and I met Molly and Spencer in downtown Memphis for their winter engagement session. It was a little cold, but the sun was shining, and provided us with gorgeous light as we wandered the streets and alleys and got to know each other better.
We could see right away how Spencer was a pro at putting Molly at ease and making her laugh!
Molly and Spencer’s favorite season is fall, so we were thrilled to find this cobblestone street lined with colorful leaves.
Spencer does serious oh so well!
After a change of clothes, we made our way to Harbortown to take advantage of the last of the fall color. This is one of my favorites! I love the pop of red from Molly’s plaid shirt!
Molly, you are so gorgeous! Those eyes!
And Spencer has the best laugh. Like, ever!
I’ll end with this photo that shows them doing what they do best… being in love!
Molly and Spencer, thank you so much for hanging out with us for a day! We had SO much fun with you guys! You know it’s a good session when you laugh the entire time! We loved getting to know you both better, and we can’t wait for the wedding!
