28 Mar Memphis Winter Canoe Engagement Session

Oh, you guys! I am SO over-the-moon excited to share this session today! I can’t tell you how long I’ve been wanting to photograph a couple in a canoe. In formal clothes. In the lake. At sunset! It takes a special, adventurous couple to give us the trust and freedom for this type of shoot, and we found it in Val and Reed! They were not afraid of getting a little wet, and just WAIT until you see them standing up in the canoe! This one was one of our favorites for so many reasons!

We’ve known Reed for a long time. He’s an IT guy like Ed, and they work together in the same building. When we heard he was finally settling down and getting married, we knew we had to be the ones to shoot the wedding. It didn’t hurt that Reed also sent me probably one of the funniest (and complimentary!) emails I’ve ever received! We couldn’t wait to meet Val, and she was even more beautiful than we expected. On the inside as well as outside!

I could listen to Val talk all day. She is from Colombia (with an “o” – there’s no “u” in Colombia!), and her accent is just as adorable and bubbly as her sparkling eyes! We could see right away why Reed loves here – she has a kind heart, a modest smile, and she is as playful and fun as she is beautiful!

When Val and Reed told us that they loved the outdoors and wanted to incorporate a canoe into their engagement photos, we were immediately on board! We lucked out and got a clear, sunny day for their session. The winter chill had been temporarily scared away by the sun, and it was almost warm.

These two know how to work a camera! Reed is a bit of a photographer himself, and they made our job so easy! We had so much fun hanging out and catching up with them. I want to be clear that standing up in a moving canoe was their idea, not mine! I may have been totally supportive of the idea, though 😉

Val and Reed, thank you SO MUCH for making our day! Heck, our year! This was one for the books, and we can’t wait for the wedding next month! Enjoy a few of our favorites from your amazing session!
