22 Jan Amy + Sam: Promised | a Memphis Greenline Engagement
Amy and Sam are so natural and comfortable around each other, you’d think they’d have known each other for years. That they were childhood friends. You just can’t envision one without the other. But in fact, they only knew each other about a year before they were engaged. Like Amy says, “When you know, you know.”
When Sam knew that he didn’t want to spend another minute without Amy by his side, he wanted a proposal she would never forget. They planned a trip to a friend’s farm, and Amy had no idea what was in store. She loved the farm. She thought it was one of the most beautiful places she had ever been, and they loved to go visit together. Sam took her on a private 4-wheeler ride to their favorite spot. It was there, with just the two of them, that Sam pulled out a series of three carefully written letters and handed them to Amy.
About halfway through reading, Amy figured out what was happening, and got excited. She read faster and faster so that she could get through them and to the good part! When she was done, Sam pulled out a ring and asked her to be his wife. She agreed happily, and tucked the letters away for safekeeping. Sam knew that proposals are so emotional that he might forget what he wanted to say in the heat of the moment, or later, Amy might forget his words (in fact, later, she recalled only two of the three letters). So he wrote them all down so that she could keep them forever. When they returned to the farm, Sam had gathered all Amy’s family as a surprise celebration, and they enjoyed their engagement with the ones they love most.
Amy and Sam enjoy being outdoors, and love being active together. One of their favorite activities is bike riding, so we knew we wanted to incorporate that into their engagement session. They even managed to borrow a tandem bike from a cousin for the photos! Luckily, the wonderful Memphis Greenline is perfect for bike riding, so we met there to begin their session. The weather and light could not have been more perfect for this first engagement shoot of 2015.
Amy joked that instead of marriage counseling, engaged couples should just rent a tandem bike. There is a lot of trust involved, as the person on the back has no control, and can only help pedal the bike forward. And yes, Sam let Amy have a turn in the front too 😉 These two were so much fun!
We took a break down by the river, where the light was amazing, and the views were pretty good too!
Nothing better than a family of kayaks floating by!
After our biking excursions, Amy and Sam changed into something a little dressier, and we explored Shelby Farms at sunset.
There’s just something I love about a gravel road that leads off into the sunset!
Yes, they are this awesome! You better believe I’m going to make them do this on their wedding day!
Amy and Sam, thank you so much for spending a gorgeous winter day with us! We had SO. MUCH. FUN! Your personalities and the way you love is beautiful, and we are so glad we got to know you better! I can’t wait for the wedding!
