25 Jul anne + alex: a downtown memphis engagement.
Anne met Alex at the school where she is a counselor. He was in the Teach for America program and moved to Memphis from New York to teach. They would both hang out often with coworkers, and would find themselves lingering at the end of these get togethers. Often, they would be the last to leave. It didn’t take long for them to realize that they wanted to see each other outside of the classroom!
When Alex knew that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Anne, he started planning. He was waiting on the right time, but he was also waiting for the ring. His grandmother offered to send him her mother’s gorgeous antique ring, so he had to wait for it to arrive. With the ring finally in hand, he knew that he wanted the proposal to be a private affair. So one night, when Anne was making her famous marinara for a get together with friends later that evening, he came into the kitchen. While she was stirring her sauce, she heard him start speaking to her, and turning to face him, saw that he was on his knee!
She said yes right away, and they are planning an October wedding later this year.
We met Anne and Alex in downtown Memphis for their engagement shoot. Since Alex is a New Yorker, but met his love in Memphis, we wanted to be sure to include some Memphis landmarks. One of their first official dates was at the Arcade Restaurant, so it only made sense that we start there!
We just sort of roamed around the area, and found a spray painted “love” art on a brick wall that we had to incorporate!
I adore brick paved alleys!
The antique ring that Alex got from his grandmother is absolutely gorgeous! I love that it has family history. It just makes it that much more special!
Anne and Alex make this old warehouse look good!
It had recently rained, so we were thrilled to find this big puddle for a reflection shot!
After roaming fun, hidden spots for a bit, we made our way to the Mississippi River for sunset.
Anne and Alex wanted to make sure they got the river bridge in a few shots, and I love how much fun they’re having here!
I’ll end with this beautiful silhouette shot that Ed got toward the end of the evening. It was such a beautiful sunset!
Anne and Alex, thank you so much for hanging out with us downtown for an evening! It was so fun hearing your story and getting to know you both better. You guys are so perfect for each other, and we can’t wait for the wedding!
Here’s to teachers. And marinara. And the perfect antique ring.
