08 Jan Alicia + Nick: Promised | a Memphis Christmas Engagement

Alicia and Nick are probably our first clients that owe their relationship to Instagram, and I love that!! Love based on photos? Yes, please!

Alicia and Nick had a mutual friend, but they had never run across each other face to face. Because of their friend, they followed each other on Instagram, and Alicia began to take note each time Nick would come up in her feed. The more she saw his photos, the more she was attracted to him. So she called up the friend and said, “your friend Nick is really cute.” She didn’t know it, but her friend was with Nick when she called. He said that he would tell Nick that she said hi, but he didn’t need to convince Nick to give her a call.

And that’s all it took for them to start dating, and to quickly fall in love.

Alicia and Nick are perfect for each other. They love the same things, in different ways, which makes for the best of both worlds. They both love music – Beyonce for her, and Jay Z for him. They both love going out, and they still make time to date each other. She loves going to the Grizzlies games with him and watching him get excited over the score. He loves spoiling her with a private chocolate and cocktail tasting. They both love putt putt and argue playfully about which of them is better at it.

Alicia and Nick will be tying the knot in November, and we are thrilled to be their photographers! In fact, Alicia and Nick changed their original wedding date so that they could work with us. I have never been so honored or humbled, and I know we are all going to have a great time!! Ed and I met them last month in downtown Memphis for their urban Christmas engagement shoot, and we had such fun getting to know them!

I knew right away that they could handle a camera just fine!

After a change into something classier, we walked along the river, waiting for sunset.

I love this shot of the city behind them as all the lights and neon started to come on!

We were waiting for dark because we knew we wanted to get a few shots with Christmas lights in the background. It was December, and close to the holidays, so downtown Memphis was all decked out for the season. When we saw these blue fountain-shaped lights, I knew we hit jackpot! The blue was perfect for their outfits, and it gave a little twist on the traditional Christmas theme! This one is definitely my favorite!

Alicia and Nick, thank you so much for hanging out with us for a day! We loved getting to know you, and we already feel like close friends! I can’t wait to set up that putt putt double date when the weather gets warmer 😉
